  1. Awesome bobblehead, not so awesome crowd. They were still giving them away at D gate as of 1:20.

    • Yeah, I was shocked that I got one at 12:45. If only more people realized that Roy Steele was as big a part of the organization as any player or manager.

    • Roy Steele brings magic to every game; whether it’s a Tuesday night in April or a playoff game in October. That booming, but calm voice filling the Coliseum binds the various eras of A’s baseball for me. From Ruben Sierra to Randy Velarde to Gabe Gross, they all may as well be Micky Mantle if Roy is annoucing them.

But about the attendance, that’s a bummer. I’ve got a dozen games lined up from May onwards and I’m excited about this season. 2010 reminds me of 2005, which was a hopeful season. Other than 2007 & 2008, I’ve had a good feeling entering each season this past decade, so I gotta hand it to the entire organization.

    • It is a very cool bobble head. I got mine (actually 2 with the wifey’s). What an exciting game, but only 15,000 of us were there. The Voice of God is the best. Glad he’s still with us. I can’t stand Renel Brooks with the Giants. She has a grating voice, and just screams everything out
This hot start hasn’t helped attendance at all. I just think the ownership has pissed off the fans to the point where they aren’t going. I wish Lew would commit to Oakland or just sell.

      • It’s funny that you say “commit to Oakland” as if that is a fix when historically, when the A’s come of craptastic season this is the attendance we should all expect. If they continue to play well, the second half will be different. That is the problem.

      • The A’s belong to the Bay Area, not just Oakland. That said, I don’t blame the City of Oakland for the A’s economic troubles. For now, Wolff has committed to the Bay Area and Bay Area A’s fans should be thankful for that. Regional rivalry should come when it’s Bay Area vs. Las Vegas (or where ever), not cities within the same area.

      • What are you talking about Briggs?? There is and will always be a “regional” rivalry between the Oakland A’s and the San Francisco Giants. Or let me guess…you’re one of those “Bay Area” baseball fans that owns one of the half A’s/Giants hats?

      • I’m referring to the rivalry that’s swelling between San Jose, Oakland and Fremont over the A’s. But since you brought it up, the interleague Bay Bridge series has been fun but those games are no more important than a game against the Blue Jays. I don’t own a dual A’s/Giants cap. A’s fandom doesn’t cease at the Oakland city limits. I’m simply saying that it’s not just Oakland’s loss, but all of the Bay Area’s loss if the A’s have to relocate out of the Bay Area. I’m also saying it’s not Oakland’s fault that the deal has poor attendance. The A’s have fans all over the Bay Area so if the A’s can stay here indefinitely, then everyone wins, not just residents of the city where the ballpark is built.

  2. If it wasn’t for little league I would have one. Maybe I will get one on eBay. I met Roy Steele one fanfest. I asked him what name he liked to announce and he said Geronimo berroa. Then he announced my name over the stadium loud speaker. One of the highlights of my life. I have a picture of me and him somewhere. Maybe I will get a bobblehead and hang up the picture of
    me and him beside it.

  3. Regardless of the crowd, another win for the A’s. Best start since 1992.

  4. Hopefully the attendance is better next Sunday. Let’s get out to the game and support Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland!

Credit Unions For Kids will be hosting a night with the A’s on Sunday, April 25th. $3 to
$5 dollars of every ticket purchased will be donated to Children’s Hospital & Research
    Center Oakland.

  5. accidentally typed newballpark.com and it points to the redsox website, I wonder if a new ball park might be coming in Boston. If so, any chance we can get fenway dismantled and then re-assembled in the bay area, lol

      • Not me. It has character but that’s about ti.
I saw a game there back in 2002 while visiting friends in R.I., and it’s it’s cramped, smelly, and uncomfortable. Ticket prices are outrageous do to the small capacity and huge demand. They should build a new one and just make it bigger and better.

      • You are right, although the smaller capacity (it’s 37k nowadays) and high demand wouldn’t be half the problem here that it is there.

It is cramped, the seats suck, etc…

The atmosphere there is amazing though. I went and watched the A’s and Red Sox on a Monday night and the place was packed. Yawkey Way was full of people. Landsdowne street was full of people. My brother and I arrived at the stadium 3 hours before game time and it was already a baseball carnival in full swing.

I’d take that here in the Bay Area… with better lit concourses and comfortable seats.

    • That dates back to the Harrington era, when he pushed hard to replace Fenway. When John Henry took the reins the idea died quickly.

  6. The Coliseum Field looks so nice

    • I second that. The only reason I’m interested in a new ballpark is because I don’t want to the A’s to relocate to another state/region. I could care less about my fan experience (wider concourses, extra bathrooms, additional concession stands and luxury suites). If the A’s want a new venue to increase their revenue, then more power to them. It’s a business. Other than Mount Davis and general location of the Coliseum, I don’t have any big issues with the original Coliseum structure. I even like it. It’s a relic of a by-gone era. I hope they can bring a few more post-season games to the Ol’Girl before all is said and done.

  7. too bad i live in so cal now. it’s off to ebay i suppose. roy’s bobblehead will go quite nicely next to my bill king, dave stewart, rickey and vida blue bobbleheads… how about some hendu, steinbach, lansford and fosse bobblehead action?

  8. Why don’t the A’s announce attendance at the games any more? They used to have the multiple choice quiz around the 8th inning. Part of me wonders if they’re embarrassed.
