Townsend on 95.7’s 1-4 PM slot

From Joe Stiglich:

Chris Townsend to host show on 95.7 Mon-Fri from 1-4 p.m. Don’t know rest of the station’s lineup yet. #Athletics

and Susan Slusser:

Chris Townsend will be starting a 1-4 p.m. daily show on SportsRadio 95.7 FM tomorrow. #Athletics

That leaves the morning open and puts Townsend in a very competitive slot. More local programming coming? We’ll see.

  1. nice about townsend. some are wanting to go after bruce but even if that took place as lieberman said bruce doesn’t have a contract with knbr, you’d think if they eventually hired him that bruce would also would want that time slot that townsend go from 1pm-4pm.

hoping tittle show gets on 95.7 but even his “expanded” show which he said he was doing with ditto’s show on 860 gone would only be from 9-12 leaving one hour of open air space between potentially tittle’s show and townsend’s show.

i think this leaves open the door for a mid morning show anywhere from 9am-1pm although a 4 hour show is pretty long. do they do two 2-hour shows?

at this time this would be my “schedule”…

ditto:8am-9am…why not bring his show over. he wouldn’t cost much to hire and even though didn’t listen all the time, was at times informative.

tittle:9am-1pm…gives you four hours to talk a’s, raiders, sharks, soccer.

townsend:1pm- 4pm…pretty much the same thing with title other than maybe soccer.

rob/arnie…4pm-6pm…personally don’t much anything about these guys.

krueger…6pm-10pm…imo he’d kill the local scene especially going after byrnes on 680. don’t get many local opinions or calls with bruno on 1050 either with his fox sports national show.

townsend:10pm-3am…why not? the only alternative it seems would sporting news radio with a guy named harris who does his overnight show from 11pm-3 am.

sporting news radio:overnight…looks like they’re using that radio network over the likes of fox sports and espn radio.

  2. Too bad Oakland let Papa go. He had a good show back in the day on the Ticket.

  3. yeah papa would be idea but just can’t see him leaving his spot on csn. i doubt they’d let him go to the “competition” on the radio dial while keeping his job there.

    • I don’t see why Papa couldn’t do both. Chronicle Live is taped in the afternoon-early evening. KBWF is located a block away from Comcast Sportsnet studios. Media guys like to multitask if they can get the gigs. The Raiders would love it simply because Papa would attract Raider fan callers.

  4. i’m not saying papa himself couldn’t do it, sure he could do it. just wonder if csn which has a relationship with knbr whether they’d allow him to do a show on the “competition” since that’s what 95.7 will be seen as.

same could be said about mcgowen who i believe also works for csn.

  5. @letsgoas – I think you’re playing that up a bit too much. You know that disclaimer at the very beginning of Chronicle Live that explains how the opinions are not of CSN? The show operates independently enough that Papa should be able to do it. Besides, Chronicle Live is not meant to be a vehicle for any one host – if it was the show would be called “Chronicle Live with Greg Papa”. I doubt the grip is that tight. Many guys work on an ad hoc basis.

  6. that maybe true but still whos paying papa’s paychecks both as a chron live host and sometimes pre/post game host on csnba?

i personally do think those at 55 hawthrone and 3rd/king does have enough power within the sports media especially least the established sports media here sans 95.7 that they wouldn’t want their “talent” to work for the competition.

i’ve seen and heard enough stories about the grudges they’ve taken with krueger, bruce, kawakami, and even lieberman over the years.

  7. I think it actually cuts the other way. KNBR and the Giants know they’ve had radio personalities under their thumb since they were the only game in town. If anything this should spur CSN and KNBR to lock up whomever isn’t under contract, such as Damon Bruce. If they choose to lockup Papa now – I don’t know what his contract status is – more power to them. If not it should be fair game.

  8. listening to townsend at the end of the post game show sunday, doesn’t sound as 95.7 will come out with a huge bang out the gate with a ton of local sports shows thru out the day.

make some sense as the station switch to sports just friday although pretty sure this move to an all sports format was talked about within the station’s hierarchy for weeks now sot they should’ve been doing some planning for this day.

  9. another guy to possibly consider is former knbr morning host kevin the “rat”. he is a a’s fan and didn’t know that, don’t know if he made public working for that station but learned about that when he was on 1140. don’t know what he’s doing these days though.

  10. I’d listen to Townsend over Fitz and Brooks! Those two bite. Damon Bruce is pretty good and I don’t see Townsend as being that good. Bruce to this station would be a nice catch. Same with Greg Papa. He was the man! I’m sure there will be quite a few changes in the programing in the first year or two.

    Rob and Arnie? What the?

  11. seems like the majority of a’s fans that i’ve been reading all over the internet the past few days want townsend whos already on staff along with krueger and roxy to build this station around. personally would like to see tittle added too.

    8am-9am…ditto
    9am-1pm…tittle
    1pm-4pm…townsend
4pm-6pm..rob/arnie although to fit the schedule be a good place for somebody like roxy if he were to be hired.
6pm-7pm…the group of show like “raiders talk”, “warriors talk” and etc.
    7pm-10pm…krueger

the rest of the day maybe filled with sports news syndicated stuff.

be fun to watch and listen to over the next few weeks and months.

  12. Don’t be surprised if they throw in a talk show that is not necessarily sports related to fill in the schedule gaps or maybe even during morning drive. Someone young that would appeal to a sports audience but who can also go into politics with relative ease. Personally, I’m of the opinion that you can mix sports in with general talk or even a music format. KNBR used to be like that and frankly, I liked that format.

  13. dude that used to be on in sac late at night monty i think is the morning drive host right now.

surprised that 95.7 would have a local morning show to start.

  14. I think we can all look to WEEI as the blueprint they will be using. I won’t be surprised to hear local shows all the time except for overnight.

  15. surprised there is a morning show because i doubt many are listening at this time of the day. show i’d guess started at 6 in the morning here and so far no calls.

he will have both the sharks radio play by play man and later on korach as guests.

also went to the station’s website and nothing much has changed since the initial launch of the station.

  16. Interesting listening to the show this morning. Monty isn’t shy about talking Giants and I wonder what the station policy will be going forward. I certainly don’t think they should ignore the Giants, especially if they want to survive. i’ve just wanted a station that will at least acknowledge the A’s exist. Ideally they would even cover the two teams (*gasp*) equally.

  17. agreed gojohn10. It’s fine to talk all sports and all teams but the A’s need to be acknowledged. The A’s need plugs and to be talked about.

  18. I have only listened briefly, but Monty seems to have a grasp on every team in the Bay region. I like that.
    .
The Red Sox preview with the guy from WEEI was pretty entertaining.

  19. These two guys… blech.

  20. Isaac and Big Suke are from Portland. Iv’e heard them before. They used to work on the same station as Colin Cowherd before he went to ESPN radio. They’re not bad. Give them a chance.

  21. I turned it off. I don’t care about Barry Zito or his psyche

  22. i don’t mind monty, did get a bit boring having him talk to himself really other than the interviews he had because i don’t think he got a single call all morning. that is where having a cohost in the morning where i don’t think there are many callers would be ideal. even the 680 guys dont’ get callers much on a consistent basis the few times i’ve listened to them over the years but at least you got more than one person on air, think they have as much as 4 guys who can just talk among themselves.

rather have tittle from 9-12, 10-12 or 9-1 than these two personally the past few hours.

switching back and forth this morning and mid morning the callers are still there for tittle, not so much with these first two shows although that will change with townsend coming up in less than an hour.

tittle did say a couple of times that you don’t need to pay him to be an a’s fan. basically taking a shot so far at the talent that 95.7 is bringing in albeit in one day and wouldnt’ mind working on 95.7.

  23. Tried to listen to 95.7 this AM. I realized that this is simply a brutal time of year for a Football-Baseball fan. Hockey and NBA playoff talk = ice pick to the ears.

  24. i don’t know why it’s a brutal time. a’s took the last two games, should’ve taken 3/4, against det. braden and harden are on the dl, a’s made a trade this morning. big series starting tue against bos.

football wise you got maybe one of the most popular times of the year in the nfl draft 10 days away.

just turned onto tittle and he was getting calls just fine. these new guys just don’t know much about the local scene which was a mistake for 95.7 to hire guys like that when you had plenty of talent who wouldn’t cost you much to bring in and talk about local sports and know what the hell they’re talking about too.

  25. I like Tittle, I just think he needs a partner. Jeffrey talked about Tittle’s tendency to go off on tangents, and I agree with that. Having a partner can be valuable in terms of reining that in. There’s also something about Tittle’s delivery that comes off as a bit too monotone at times. He doesn’t have to sound like fake broadcasting school grad, just more engaged and connected. I think people give Tittle too much credit for simply being an A’s fan when the job is a lot more than that.

  26. It’s intereting, sure, but it was all NHL and NBA for the 30 minutes I was in the car. It was a personal note. I also did notice that Townsend got a call from a Canandian transplant who was super excited to have a station where he could call and talk serious hockey. Townsend had NOTHING. Started talking about when Gretzky got trded to the Kings. Hockey is going to be tough on 95.7 – are they going to dedicate serious air time to hard core hockey talk knowing that it is the fourth most popular sport with a big gap up to number 3?

  27. tittle does have some cohost with him at times the most notable one is Levitt who does happen to be a SF fan which I’m okay with as he’s not one of those in your face annoying ones ala Ralph or those stooges on the morning show.

roxy imo also could be a cohost type be it with tittle or with somebody else. i doubt it’ll take much to hire one or both of them or even just bring in tittle’s sportsbyline show which probaly doesn’t cost much unless his shown has some sort of contract with 860 which i doubt it does.

some guy who posted at lieberman’s blog over the weekend said tittle’s salary by sportsbyline is like 20k. don’t know how true that is but that’s a penny in the bucket for the a’s even if you double his salary. not like sports radio host especially not the big names even locally are getting paid big time money like national guys ala rome.

i don’t know who would pay the salaries, entercom, maybe the a’s? had the a’s bought 860 pretty sure they would’ve been paying for most of the salaries of the talent they brought in to do shows here locally. if i’m the a’s and i’m hearing the programming so far especially those from 10-1, i’d be willing to fork over some money to get some host who can discuss the a’s and know what the hell they’re talking about which these two certainly didn’t not.

townsend’s show should be the saving grace so far today although i still don’t mind monty but do think it’d be wise to give him a cohost as listening him to himself was pretty boring for 4 hours.

hopefully whoever they hire to do night is on the level of townsend/tittle.

  28. Agreed about Tittle. Beyond his passion for the A’s, I’m not sure he has the chops to carry a show in a major market. Aside from the A’s-employeed broadcast personalities, I’d rather not have any of the KTRB roster on 95.7. I’m not placing blame of KTRB failure squarely on their on-air talent, but 95.7 needs a fresh start with some new voices. Chris Townsend’s producer helped breakup the usual back and forth between Chris and his callers– so that was nice.

If JJ & The Mouth were brought over, I’d honestly rather listen to The Razor & Mr. T. That said, I’d rather smash my hand between two bricks than listen to the Razor & Mr. T, so take it for what it’s worth.

  29. i doubt hockey will be talked a ton, certainly won’t have any where near the type of die hard talk you’d get from established hockey cities like those up in Canada or in the northeast and places in the midwest like CHI and DET who have a long tradition with the sport.

still townsend grew up a sharks fan, he lived in sj even before the sharks franchise was established in the early 90s and has been a fan of them since. i’m guessing there will be some sort of post game sharks radio show down the road, doubt it’ll be with townsend as he’ll be doing a’s. as much as a’s fans have bitched about our lack of radio presence, sharks fans may have it worse as i don’t think they have a post game radio show.

a’s, raiders, warriors, sharks imo would be the pecking order for i think most listening to 95.7.

  30. all i know about tittle is that he has what it looks like a passionate following in the a’s/raiders fandom. he gets probably as many calls per hour than anybody in the area other than bruce on 1050.

comparing his show to that of the one on 95.7 at the same time, wasn’t even close in terms of the amount of people that called in and just the local knowledge of the sports scene as we’ve know tittle has over the past year and half he’s was put on 860. you can name many reasons why 860 failed but i doubt it was because of tittle because he was probably the best show from sportsbyline on air and like i mentioned previously he knows what he’s talking about and at this time a’s/raiders fans trust hin enough to call him. and if you read the facebook page for 95.7, the opinions being let out against those host on 95.7 from 10-1 was pretty scathing.

    • They can fix the lack of local knowledge over time. The callers can train them if needed. Tittle’s flaws can be fixed too. Entercom is a big corporate org, they evidently wanted some polish. Them’s the breaks.

  31. some have said that entercom will take what they learned from weei which probably is one of the best sports stations on radio in the country.

well they hired LOCAL talent, guys who actually grew up there and know about the team. again monty is a raiders fan from what i read so during football season his show should get better although still don’t know if a morning show will work really.

these two guys who they supposedly brought in from portland to do 10-1 know nothing about the area. it’s like they threw shit against the wall like talking about controversial subjects like zito/jamarcus, saw what stuck and hoped people would call in.

lets hope the host at night, probably start at 6 will be LOCAL HOST. be pretty bad that really townsend is the only guy potentially on the radio station that’s actually worked in the bay area during his career.

  32. I think too much emphasis is being placed on the on-air talents’ actual favorite team. For anyone that watches sports, you know that it doesn’t take too long to “get to know” a team. I really recommend listening to a Cincinnati host fielding listener calls about The Reds, then listen to a Milwaukee host do the same for the Brewers. Not to be too cynical, but it’s pretty much the same thing as you’ll hear from KNBR. 95.7 shouldn’t be any different. In this day in age, sports fans get their news from the internet. The radio is a forum to vent. The main thing the show’s host brings to the table is the ability to field phone calls, fill up air-time and promote discussion. Personality mainly becomes a factor when the host is reacting to something, like a crap offense or a blown umpire call. But again, what team the host grew up watching has little to do with any of this. The team’s popularity carries the show, which is why radio hosts are so interchangeable. In the end, it’s the A’s and Sharks’ job to bring in listeners.

  33. i think it’s pretty telling so far that townsend has taken more callers in his first 80 minutes than monty or those two other guys did in their 7 hours on air.

  34. Just got off the phone with Chris. I was a first time caller, long time listener. Good times.

  35. nice rant by townsend about why he feels sj is getting screwed over in not getting a mlb team.

  36. well one hour into the rob/arnie show, a bit of shock jock sports talk. politically incorrect stuff.

one host is a long life a’s fan so that’s good, think he’s a niners fan too which also is a plus for me. the other host is from tex so i don’t know how they combined to make this show years ago.

it’s not something i’d listen to everyday, certainly would listen to tittle or townsend over these guys but these guys are better than the crap we had to deal with back in the mid morning.

  37. well there is no local show at night.

it goes to sporting news radio from 6pm on i guess. not digging the lineup other than townsend. please put tittle in for those guys from 10-1 and bring in somebody like krueger.

  38. First day knee jerk reaction:
    .
    1. Monty is pretty good. I agree he should have a co host. Not sure who it should be, but if he had a comedic foil and segments about thigns outside fo sports, I have no doubt that he can make the morning slot work.
    .
    2. The guys between Monty and Chris Townsend were flat out ridiculous. They had no frakin’ idea what they were talking about. The Barry Zito v. JaMarcus Russell debate was a bad impression of the worst in sports talk. They seemed to know as close to nothing about the A’s as anyone in Orange and Black. Their “interview” with Rob Neyer had promise but lacked. It was GD Rob Neyer?!?!?!?!?! Spend more than 3 minutes with him. Don’t ask him retarded questions. Ugh.
    .
    3. Chris Townsend is my favorite local radio guy. He crushes it.
    .
    4. As much as I think Rick Titte loses the point and is off base, he would still be an excellent addition. I have little faith that those mid morning guys will amount to much. Radnich will crush them. Bring over Tittle, pair him up with Kevin the Rat, and let the good times roll. A’s, Raiders and Earthquakes talk to go up against Radnich and his Giants, 49ers and Warriors chat.
    .
    5. I don’t expect much after 6 PM with A’s games and post game shows taking that slot for a while. I’d love to see somebody like Dave Henderson host a sports phone 680 clone. He would crush Byrnes.

  39. i don’t know if these mid morning guys have a “contract” and if it’s guaranteed move them to the morning so monty isn’t talk by himself for 4 hours as he was doing so today, didn’t even have a producer to talk with that so many other solo talk show hosts have like townsend has with his producer during his night now. still don’t know if there will be enough callers from 6-10 to have a effective local call in morning show. i think 6 am is pretty early and if it was 7-10, more likely to be more suitable time frame for a morning show.

mid morning time slot is a prime location for tittle. as i mentioned very early today, tittle i wouldn’t say was lobbying for the job but did say that he didn’t need to get paid to root for the a’s and both on radio and online on numerous blogs/mbs, the strong majority wants tittle so if we email the station maybe they’ll make the move to bring him on 95.7. imo having tittle going back to back with townsend for 6 hours would be great. that’s of course tittle leaves sportsbyline as his show is from 9-12, originially 10-12 and i don’t know if sportsbyline would change their schedule for tittle’s show to end at 1 and start jj/mouth at 1 instead of at noon time especially since tittle would be leaving 860/sportsbyline as doesn’t look like 95.7 will be carry any other of the sportsbyline programming including townsend’s national show at night. speaking of that, townsend did mention his night show and said he’s not sure what the long term future of his show at night will be.

townsend after a dissapointing start to the station’s first day was a great. imo he should have a longer show than 3 hours.

rob/arnie. well it’s not my taste really even though rob i think is an a’s/niners fan just like me and have no problem ripping certain teams i hate. like i said it’s a bit of morning/afternoon shock radio that you’d get on a music station rather than a sports station. i don’t hate the show but not gonna rush to the radio dial and tune them in. still think this would be a good spot like 4-7 for a legit local call in show with the likes of krueger, roxy, mcgowen or heck even bruce down the road although i think it’s very doubtful bruce would leave knbr anytime soon.

was disappointed there was no night show and looks like they’ll go with sporting news radio from 6 pm to 6 am to monty’s morning show. hendu as a radio host? does he have experience. even if he did i still wouldn’t want a “pro” doing a night time job as i have a bad taste in my mouth of former players having their own radio show at night, aka fp and byrnes on knbr. i think most who’d host a 7-10, 6-9, or even 6-10 night time show would crush 680 at night locally especially if it was somebody established like kreuger.

frankly overall was disappointed and even though this schedule isn’t penned in for years to come, heck even months to come, i thought 95.7 could do better.

  40. just hope these shows other than townsend and maybe monty are just fillers until entercom can get some legit local hosts soon who know what the hell they’re talking about especially when it deals wth the a’s, raiders, sharks, warriors and etc. you know the teams that the station supposedly wants to build the station around.

who was the last out of towner that succeeded on knbr? some may point out to bruce who was born in ny, grew up as a chicago fan, went to indiana, and worked for the “evil” espn. but bruce a decade ago was an intern here for a few years so he knew the local sports scene and he did work at sportsbyline for a little while before he was hired to replace kreuger on 680 so he at least had a handful of years in the area studying up on the teams. even when he made his debut you could tell even though he was new to the area, he was familar with the teams locally especially the team that he actually had to cover which is something you just didn’t get from that mid morning show from 10 am-1 pm. i think if you looked around today they are the one show that was getting hammered on the most.

some critics will say there isn’t enough fan base for this station to work. obviously that isn’t the case when townsend for most of his 3 hours took callers thru out his show and don’t forget tittle too on 860 who for two hours and now three probably also will get wall to wall callers. obviously a’s fans and other fans in general weren’t impressed with a couple of the shows today and that showed with the lack of host(s) to fan(s) interaction.

  41. Monte was ok and Townsend was amazing, but everyone else was awful.

  42. wouldn’t mind if monty were move to the afternoon slot after townsend. imo having listened to him on 1140 years ago late at night and on sporting news radio during afternoons recently, imo he’s better suited for the drive home slot than a morning show slot.

afternoon you’d get more listeners and callers especially.

  43. Down the road this is what I’d like to see…

    9am-10am…ditto
    10am-1pm…tittle
    1pm-4pm…townsend
    4pm-7pm…monty
    7pm-10pm…krueger

…again have doubts a morning show will pan out. wouldn’t mind bring in ditto to do his daily interview of media types. if not ditto, why not have like a two hour morning show from like 7am-9am with somebody like roxy.

tittle obviously after some urging by the listeners will eventually land on 95.7 with or without his sportsbyline.

    townsend stays of course.

monty moves to afternoons where i think he’s better suited.

krueger is imo a move down the road. seems like many want tittle and or krueger added to the lineup. imo we need to keep emailing our thoughts on who should be on air.

    • 24 of the 48 posts are from letsgoa’s, and they’re super long posts too..lol.Dude, give it a rest! It’s only a radio station!

I love his passion and he’s obviously knowledgable. BTW, it’s NOT “only a radio station”, it’s OUR A’s station!

Down the road this is what I’d like to see…9am-10am…ditto10am-1pm…tittle1pm-4pm…townsend4pm-7pm…monty7pm-10pm…krueger…again have doubts a morning show will pan out. wouldn’t mind bring in ditto to do his daily interview of media types. if not ditto, why not have like a two hour morning show from like 7am-9am with somebody like roxy. tittle obviously after some urging by the listeners will eventually land on 95.7 with or without his sportsbyline. townsend stays of course. monty moves to afternoons where i think he’s better suited. krueger is imo a move down the road. seems like many want tittle and or krueger added to the lineup. imo we need to keep emailing our thoughts on who should be on air.

I’d love to see that line up too. Stick to your guns!

  44. That Rob and Arnie show was HORRIBLE. I literally had a headache after listening to the show. Both of them come off as total obnoxious jerks. They were condescending towards many of their callers. They were bashing Raider fans. Then a female 49ers fan called the show to tell them that she has attended 49er/Raider exhibition games in Oakland and nothing bad has ever happened to her and everything was good. One of the hosts said “I find that hard to believe.” Then the other host asked her “Do you know who Alex Smith is?”, as if she wouldn’t know. I turned the radio off immediately after this.

I was reading the 95.7 Facebook page, and many of the posters said the same thing about Rob and Arnie. Apparently they were very rude/condescending towards our very own Bleacher Dave who called in.

  45. 24 of the 48 posts are from letsgoa’s, and they’re super long posts too..lol.
Dude, give it a rest! It’s only a radio station!

  46. Ok guys, I’m as happy as anyone else that we have a station that will treat us great. That being said, with this line up, we aren’t going to make it very long. At this point with the on air “talent” that’s on this station, I’m likely to go back to the other ones. Monte needs a cohost because he seems overmatched. He’s a bit boring too. The next time slot, I’d rather listen to Gary Radnich or Jim Rome. Both are entertaining. Townsend is second on my list behind Damon Bruce in his time slot. The two jokers after that will not get very many listeners with Tom Tolbert on the air. Dude is a funny guy. And well we have syndicated radio after that. I like Todd Wright, but most fans will listen to a local guy in Byrnes. Again, a spaz but funny.
So if we think this station is going to make it with Chris Townsend as the star of the station, we’re in trouble. Nothing against the guy. He’s good at pre and post game shows but that’s about it.

  47. I wonder if there willl be a company memo on how to deal with the new ballpark/city issue. I’m sure the topic would generate a lot of listener phone calls, it could get out of hand. In the end, I’m not as concerend with who hosts what. It’s more about the content/segments they incorporate into their shows. Billy Beane/David Forst will prob get a weekly segment.

  48. I didn’t listen to Rob and Arnie, because I already knew they sucked.

    • Monty just weighed in on the stadium situation on Oakland’s side. Isaac and Suke are going to take it on in their slot. We know how Townie feels about San Jose. There will be a diversity of opinion and that’s good.

  49. 925fan is right, Rob and Arnie were not just bad radio, they were extremely sexist And this comes from a guy that regularly rolls his eyes when people on AN pipe up about things being offensive. I was shocked that they thought this was a good angle on their first day. I was really hoping Susan Slusser, Jane Lee, or Mellisa Lockhard would call the show and tell them off. These guys need to go…big time.

  50. i’ve been waiting for another sports radio station here locally for YEARS now so yeah i’m passionate about it. i hope that it is succesful and can be the a’s long term home for decades to come.

i want something that most other sports teams have and that’s a home for us fans to go to and talk about the teams who we follow.

  51. @steveborden, I’d rather listen to guys on 95.7 talking A’s who are slighlty less talented, than listen to a bunch of Giants homers that diss the A’s at every turn.

  52. Agree 100% with Jesse — the subject matter is far more important that the on-air “talent” (even the very best sports radio hosts can be unbearable for extended listening periods).
    .
Speaking of which, why are the Razor and Mr T popular? Lack of competition? I find them unlistenable. The older guy (Razor) has what is probably the worst radio voice I’ve ever heard (high pitched and scratchy) and Mr T seems likeable but somewhat dull-witted.

  53. do hope down the road that the raiders join 95.7 and i’m not even a raiders fan but think all teams should have a radio home both during the season and offseason. that’s the ultimate and my dream scenario even when the a’s were on 860.

would give the station a great shot of remaining a sports station long term. to have three major sports teams in the market on your station along wtih possibly one or even both of cal/stanford, the amount of money that could be put into the station to support all those fans should benefit the station big time.

  54. speaking the of facebook page got a lot of people who don’t know what they’re talking about regards to the oak/sj issue.

even those from the pro oakland side who believe the sharks will move to oakland. yeah like that’s gonna happen.

  55. I saw that too. Pretty funny stuff.

  56. read on another a’s board that somebody posted that bruce’s contract with 1050 is almost up. if true that would be a good get for 95.7.

this is what lieberman posted over the weekend when it dealt with local talent 95.7 could go after.

“*Damon Bruce: Largely taken for granted at KNBR and placed in the outer oasis at sister-station, 1050 AM, Bruce is talented and offers a big name for Dwight Walker, the Entercom market manager, (who worked at KNBR in the pre-Cumulus days)”

according to another poster at lieberman’s blog, bruce isn’t happy with his salary. if 95.7 pays him enough why not go after him. if you wanted to get that “first shot” in at knbr, imo this would be as ideal of a move as you could get. not to mention as i’ve said many times bruce is the only guy i’d want from knbr.

i know quite a few don’t like bruce but imo i think he could do a 180 and concentrate on the east bay sports more if he went to 95.7 imo bruce is in the mode of the “the ticket 1050” era than he is the 680 way of doing things. he isn’t from the bay area so he isn’t linked to the sf side of the sports scene for life other than him doing sports talk on knbr since 06.

if you could have a group of monty, tittle, townsend, bruce, krueger…that’d blow knbr out of the sports talk here locally. may not show in terms of the ratings but when it dealt with pure sports talk on the dial, wouldnt’ be even close.
